The Style Attic Stranded for SNAPS
When we say no working day is the same for us here at HQ, we really mean no two days look the same. On Tuesday, Leigh and Jade were left stranded in the first ever Stranded for SNAPS event which saw participants taken out on boat from Leeds Dock, and left to raise funds for this special charity.
With an assigned time and a fundraising target, Leigh, Jade and the other members from the fundraising group set sail from the dock via water taxi with their phones, laptops and a book of contacts. Working against the clock, Leigh and Jade enlisted the help of their connections, friends, family and The Style Attic community, persuading them to donate vital funds for SNAPS.
For those who missed one of their lives, or don’t know much about the charity already: SNAPS is an inspirational place connecting families and children with a wide range of challenges and opportunities. Their aim is to promote health and well-being for all by creating opportunities for people to meet, learn, play, and build relationships. They’re an inclusive organisation, involving the whole family, including siblings with no special needs.
SNAPS, who are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year, supports children with additional needs and their families like Leigh’s, who’ve been using the charity's services for over 7-years.
The group were able to return to dry land once they had reached their fundraising target - with Leigh and Jade raising over £1000 in just one hour alone.
Participants included Gemma Smith, CEO of housebuilder Strata, and disability awareness campaigner Rachel Hill, who owns the Bondville Model Village in Sewerby. If that wasn’t enough, The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Cllr Abigail Marshall Katung, also came along to provide support and encouragement to the team as they sailed around the dock and she looked a knockout in her beautiful green two-piece suit.
The Lord Mayor said of the event: " What a great way to spend a Tuesday morning! I had so much fun, for a wonderful cause! It was my first ever time on the water taxi and it's such a wonderful way to see our beautiful city. The team raising funds for SNAPS did an incredible job and I'm delighted to have been part of such a fabulous event.”
Leigh said about partaking in Stranded for Snaps: “I’m so happy that we’ve been able to raise so much money for SNAPS! This money will go towards supporting families such as mine, and I know first-hand the positive impact that it will have. The physiotherapy that Edie receives each week at SNAPS is undoubtedly one of the best parts of her week and thanks to our customers who donated, SNAPS will be able to help other families who are a lot like mine in the future.”
