The End of Year Edit

TSA x Paperworks

In January Jade & Leigh had the pleasure of visiting Paperworks, a charity based in our hometown of Leeds and one that’s making a huge difference for people in our community.

For those that don’t know, Paperworks is a social enterprise, a business aimed at delivering a social benefit to individuals as well as being a registered charity. Their main aim is to enhance work skills and wellbeing for adults with learning and physical disabilities, autism and mental health needs.

They provide a solid grounding for everyone to learn new skills, progress at their own pace and enjoy being in a shared work environment. The initial meeting was a great way to learn more about how they operate and how we could come together throughout the year to support such a special place.

Leigh looked back on her first visit to Paperworks and how they’ve collaborated this year: “As a parent to a child with a learning & physical disability, I can confirm there were a few happy tears shed on our first visit. Throughout the year we’ve visited them a number of times as a family, appeared on their podcast, fundraised at our annual summer soiree and recently helped launch their extra-special Paperworks Charity Christmas Box. The work they do isn’t just life-changing, but the people who are working there welcome everyone with such open arms - it’s magic!”

Big Buys In The Big Smoke

We’re always out souring for our next collection, but London always inspires us with its vibrant energy and diverse street style. So when Leigh, Lisa and Charlotte ventured south for a buying trip in February, the trio found themselves immersed into a world of colour, bold prints and independent treasures. Who spots anything from our spring/summer collection below?

International Women's Day

On Friday March 8th we welcomed thirty wonderful ladies to our Leeds store for an intimate International Women's Day Brunch, and what a morning we all had celebrating.

There’s a lot of responsibility holding an event for such an iconic occasion, but we rose to the challenge and embraced all the glory there is being a woman with our fierce female community.

Guests were treated to an array of food & refreshments, whilst they sat back and listened to our panelists; Rachel Hill, Sarah Brown, Ellen Andow and Maggie McMillan share insight, experiences and fuel-for-thought on their specialised topics.

For us, it’s not just about the work we do one day a year, it’s about creating a space where women encourage one another, feel supported and celebrate individuality every-single-day. It’s why we love our Friends of The Style Attic Facebook page so much too.

It’s Shopping With Friends, But Better

Just like we always did in the original attic almost a decade ago, in April we welcomed back our Girls Night In shopping experiences. Why? Because we love being a space where groups of women can come together for a natter and a shop, whilst sipping a prosecco and having a nibble! Just like our lovely customer Alison has done this year and talked about in our recent Sunday Edit here.

Destination Unknown

Nothing brings us more joy than seeing our amazing customers rocking The Style Attic. This spring, we couldn’t help but notice our customers taking our clothes on some incredible adventures. So, in May, we asked you to share your destination #StyleAtticSelfies, and the response blew us away! From sun-kissed beaches to cosy staycations, it became clear that you were making memories in The Style Attic wherever you went.

Leaping In To Linen

Although the month of June was a total wash-out with some of the worst rain the UK has had on record, we held on to hope that temperatures would rise with the launch of our highly anticipated spring linen collection.

Thanks to the breathability, durability and general gorgeousness, we curated a capsule of breezy dresses, floral dungarees and chic co-ords that kept you all stylish and cool during the early summer months - we just needed the sun to play ball at the time!

Summer Soiree 2024

Back for the third consecutive year, our annual charity event, the Summer Soiree, took place in Leeds where we raised over £1000 for our chosen charity, Paperworks.

Guests enjoyed a customer catwalk, first-look shopping experience, disco, raffle prizes and raising a glass (or two) with friends during the afternoon.

We loved nothing more than being able to bring our fabulous community together for a celebration face to face, especially when the money raised helped support a charity we feel so passionate about. With many guests saying it was the best one yet, the big question is now, can we top it in 2025?

Here Comes The Sun

August had us not just celebrating the arrival of sunshine, but the launch of our now most in-demand cardigan prints of all time. If that wasn’t enough, it also saw two big birthday celebrations for our team at HQ. And because we love to drag out the party, we had a month of celebrations for our lovely Clare and Charlotte who celebrated their 50th and 21st birthdays.

“Alexa, play Earth, Wind & Fire...”

Summer was short but sweet, and in September the change in season meant a change in colour palette as nudes, mocha, burgundy and monochrome all re-entered our wardrobes for autumn/winter.

In September we also started to introduce a touch of texture to our accessories, opting for quilted coats or suede and satin finishes to footwear. The best news? The same colour palette isn't going anywhere in 2025, even more so when ‘Mocha Mouse' was recently hailed Pantone Colour of The Year.

The Sunday Edit

If the new season shuffle didn’t keep us busy enough, this autumn we also launched our brand new Sunday Edit. A bi-weekly spotlight on all things The Style Attic. Taking you behind the scenes, down memory lane and out-and-about with conversations with our team and loyal customers.

Stranded For Snaps

If you’d have told us at the start of the year that Leigh and Jade would be held hostage on a boat, we would have laughed and made a joke. But really, that’s exactly what happened in October when the sisters took part in the first ever ‘Stranded for SNAPS' event.

Participants were taken out on boat from Leeds Dock, and left to raise funds for this special charity. With an assigned time and a fundraising target, Leigh, Jade and the other members from the fundraising group set sail from the dock via water taxi with their phones, laptops and a book of contacts. Working against the clock, Leigh and Jade enlisted the help of their connections, friends, family and The Style Attic community, persuading them to donate vital funds for SNAPS.

SNAPS is an inspirational place connecting families and children with a wide range of challenges and opportunities. Their aim is to promote health and well-being for all by creating opportunities for people to meet, learn, play, and build relationships. They’re an inclusive organisation, involving the whole family, including siblings with no special needs.

SNAPS, who are celebrating their 20th anniversary this year, supports children with additional needs and their families like Leigh’s, who’ve been using the charity's services for over seven-years.

The group were able to return to dry land once they had reached their fundraising target - with Leigh and Jade raising over £1000 in just one hour alone.

The Lord Mayor of Leeds, Cllr Abigail Marshall Katung, also came along to provide support and encouragement to the team as they sailed around the dock. The Lord Mayor said of the event: " What a great way to spend a Tuesday morning! I had so much fun, for a wonderful cause! It was my first ever time on the water taxi and it's such a wonderful way to see our beautiful city. The team raising funds for SNAPS did an incredible job and I'm delighted to have been part of such a fabulous event.”

Leigh said about partaking in Stranded for Snaps: “I’m so happy that we were able to raise so much money for SNAPS! This money will go towards supporting families such as mine, and I know first-hand the positive impact that it will have. The physiotherapy that Edie receives each week at SNAPS is undoubtedly one of the best parts of her week and thanks to our customers who donated, SNAPS will be able to help other families who are a lot like mine in the future.”

All Things Nice & Pumpkin Spice

For us, creating something beautiful with fellow craft lovers is always a good idea, but supporting other independent businesses in the process makes it all even more enjoyable.

That’s exactly what we did in October. We hosted another workshop in our Leeds store, where our local florist supported customers in creating a pumpkin floral display in time for halloween.

Jade said in reflection: “Something I’ve loved this year is being able to work and partake in our independent events and workshops, but more than anything it’s been lovely to connect with customers and put faces to names of people I chat to online everyday.”

Christmas Camera Roll...

December so far has been full of festive cheer and unforgettable moments, which is just how we like to spend the final month of the year. Our team has been busy celebrating the season of sparkle with our Christmas party and brunching for our gorgeous Neve’s 18th birthday:

That’s A Wrap For 2024

So as we close out 2024, we can’t help but reflect on the incredible ride this year has been. From new collections to meaningful connections, we’re beyond thankful for the growth and opportunities we’ve had as a small business, and for each and every one of you who has supported us along the way. Your belief in The Style Attic has made all the difference, and we are so excited for what’s to come in the new year!

But we also want to take a moment to acknowledge that, for some, this time of year can feel a tad overwhelming. If you’re not feeling in the Christmas spirit or if things seem a little heavy, that’s okay. You’re not alone, and we’re sending you lots of love to you and yours. Take the time you need, and know that it’s perfectly fine to experience the season in your own way.

Here’s to embracing what 2024 has taught us, being grateful for the present and looking forward to all the possibilities ahead in 2025 - thanks for being with us on this journey, we wouldn't want it any other way!

With love,
The Style Attic Team x
